EPFO UPI withdrawal

EPFO UPI withdrawal: In a major digital leap for salaried employees across India, the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) is set to allow subscribers to withdraw their provident fund (PF) savings instantly using the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) gateway. Union Labour Minister Mansukh Mandaviya announced that the technical testing for the UPI-based withdrawal feature has been successfully completed, and the service will be rolled out to the public shortly. The initiative aims to modernize service delivery and cut down the heavy paperwork and long waiting periods traditionally associated with PF claims.

How Will the UPI-Based PF Withdrawal Work?

Under the upcoming mechanism, the Union Labour Ministry plans to implement a secure balance-split system:

  • Frozen Contribution: A specific portion of the member’s EPF account will remain locked to guarantee long-term retirement and social security safety nets.
  • Eligible Liquid Balance: The remaining eligible balance can be viewed directly by subscribers through their seeded bank accounts.
  • Instant Transfer via UPI PIN: Members can safely authorize the transfer of their eligible funds directly into their linked bank accounts by simply entering their secure UPI PIN. Once transferred, the money is immediately available for digital spending or ATM cash withdrawals.

Auto-Settlement Limits Increased to ₹5 Lakh

Even prior to the launch of the UPI feature, the EPFO has aggressively scaled up its automated services. The electronic auto-settlement claim limit has been raised from ₹1 lakh to ₹5 lakh. Eligible advance or partial claims filed for emergencies—such as medical treatment, education, marriage, or housing—are now processed electronically without human intervention within just three days.

EPFO Services Coming to WhatsApp Next Month

To further simplify access for its 7 crore plus subscriber base, the minister also revealed that the EPFO will introduce dedicated user support via WhatsApp within the next month. Using a verified business account with a green tick, members will be able to message a simple “Hello” to access guided help.Initially, the WhatsApp assistant will prioritize targeted resolution for members facing Aadhaar authentication or Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) issues under the Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana (PMVBRY). It will later expand to provide everyday functionalities like balance checks, tracking claim statuses, and reviewing the last five transactions in multiple regional languages.
